post -18jan activity post

Hey Guides, sec. 3s, this should be one of the rare times where u all polish ur marching boots and wear it on the spot rite . I can see that all of u (or 90%) are very hardworking/enthu about it !! (which is good! keep it up!) Anyway, for the benefit of those who didn't come or forget how to polish ur boots, here's a recap:
materials needed:
1) kiwi
2) cloth
3) marching boots
4) water
Steps:
1) Hold the cloth using 1 finger and dab some kiwi.
2) Apply 1 or 2 layers onto 1 part of the marching boots (we usually start from the front and work towards the back).
3) Use another part of the cloth and dab some water, not too much, not too little. Generally, ur finger (holding the cloth) should be able to feel the moisture. Then in circular motion, rub it continuously over the kiwi until it begins to shine.
4) Keep adding water when it feels too dry. And u can then polish another corner when u can see part of ur reflection.
When ur marching boots is shiny, it would look kinda waxy.
Tips (given from personal experience :) :
a) The kind of cloth u use can also make a difference. *Do not use ur father's handkerchief kind of material!!* Use those kind of material like ur towel, but a smaller one lah, obviously. It's softer and the marching boots can be shiny quite easily. (dun understand can ask me)
b) u dun haf to exert alot of force when polishing ur boots, just keep going round and round the area for like 45sec. and there shud be some chg le.

Oh ya guides one very important thing to avoid: When polishing ur marching boots, if u notice some cracks or uneven surfaces appearing, like some parts of the m. b is flaking off, it means that ur m.b has cracked. Which is NOT good news. It means that particular area cannot be as shiny as the others anymore. It could be due to heat / friction, I'm not very sure. But don't aggravate that spot by rubbing it vigorously. And I'm afraid there's no known solution for this problem, sorry guides. I will take it that u all were so diligently polishing it that it cracked. :D
That's all ! I'm quite a long winded person haha. Another thing u all can work on generally is to have more initiative. If u are unsure about anything, ask. And if u all have nothing to do, then automatically help others who still haven't finished.

Sec. 2s, I didn't forget u.Keep up the good work that u all have done so far. Start sewing ur badges into ur Guides uniform ok! For Guides badges, those which are traditionally black sewn on green thread, should be sewn on ur right sleeve. U kno the line which runs down the middle of the sleeve, it shud be sewn on the left side first (when u are wearing the uni.). there is 3 in a row , and when u have more than 3, u move on to the right side of the line. Those non-Guides (which means that other UGs might also have them) badges, e.g Healthy lifestyle and Total defence badge should be sewn on the left sleeve. An area u all can improve on generally is your sense of urgency and punctuality. If we give u all a specific amount of time to do things, make sure that u are back/fall in punctually, even if u have not completed ur tasks. U all shud look out for one another also, ha rmb " a Guide is a sister to all Guides" ..

Hehe that's all,

mei zhen

IXORA patrol is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!! (so lame~)
