Badgework Schedule for 11/11-12/11

Hi guides! These are the badges you guys are required to start working on within these 2 days, sec one and two respectively. Please read through the rubrics carefully and remember to bring the materials needed! :)

For Secondary Ones:

1. Speaker’s Badge

(Guides are to complete points #1 & #2 using texts from their own books. They are reminded to bring their own books!
Standard of their book must not be too simple.)

1. Say from memory a short poem or passage of verse of her choice, lasting not less than one minute and not more than two minutes.

2. After a short time for preparation, read aloud a passage provided by the tester.

3. a. Introduce and thank a visitor at a meeting
b. Prepare and take Guide prayers, or speak for not less
than three minutes on a subject given to her five minutes
before hand.

4. Talk with the tester about something interesting which she has done or seen recently.


2. Entertainer’s Badge (Time to prepare will be given)

1. Perform two items, each to last at least two minutes, from the following: dancing, singing, playing an instrument, reciting.
Note: The items may be of the same kind, e.g. two contrasted songs. The standard is to be very high and suitable for public entertainment.

2. Entertain Guides for ten minutes with at least two of the following (other than items performed in clause 1): conjuring tricks, playing whistle, banjo, harmonica, harp and any other portable instrument, character sketches, stories, songs and chorus, mime.
Note: The standard need not be as high as in clause 1, but suitable for a campfire.


3. Friend to Animal’s Badge

(Point #1 may be modified to something simpler.)

1. Own, or part own, an animal or bird.

2. Have a general knowledge of how to feed the animals and keep it healthy.

3. Know how to obtain advice on sick animals from a veterinary surgeon or other authority, e.g. SPCA; be able to carry out the treatment as instructed.

4. Know how to give medicine to an animal.

5. Understand how it is possible to be cruel to an animal by:
a. Over-feeding
b. Lack of discipline in training
c. Unsuitable living conditions, e.g. kennel, cage etc
d. Insufficient care in grooming etc

Have a thorough knowledge of the natural history of two domestic animals, other than the animals which belongs to her and describe their habits and usefulness

For Secondary Twos:


1. Handcraft

1. Make a useful item involving the following skills:

a. Knitting
b. Crocheting
c. Weaving
d. Knotting
e. Patchwork

2. Make 3 useful or ornamental articles involving the use of:

a. Wood
b. Clay
c. Plastics
d. leather or equivalent materials

(HAND UP BY CAMP)

2. Hostess Badge


1. Entertain the tester, or someone chosen by her e.g. at morning coffee, afternoon tea, a party etc.

2. Know, and where possible demonstrate, the chief things to remember when entertaining a guest or guests:

a. Coming to stay
b. Coming for a party or similar function

3. Write letters

a. Invitation to a party or event
b. Invitation to a friend to stay
c. Accepting an invitation, refusing an invitation (one to be formal)
d. Thanking after a visit

(2 to be selected during the test)

3. Basket-Maker

1. Make one of the following, each in a different type of basket-work, such as cane, raffia, straw, the base of the one article to be woven.

a. Market basket;
b. Mat;
c. Work basket;
d. Waste-paper basket

2. Have a general knowledge of the raw material employed, how it is obtained, and how it is prepared for working.


Try to get all the materials and prepare as much as you can!
